Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

Pictured Rocks is an absolutely destination to see during the Summer, and especially in the Fall.  Pictured Rocks is a section of coast line along Lake Superior, and there are many miles of hiking trails that are under and over a mile long. Plan on this destination taking all day to explore.  There many different ferry services that offer many different cruises along the coast line, as well.

Seney Wildlife Refuge

The Seney Wildlife Refuge is located just 15 minutes North of Blaney Park. All you need to do is travel straight north on M-77.  The Seney Wildlife Refuge is over 95,000 acres and is best known for the Trumpeter Swan, among many other nesting birds.  One of the most interesting facts about the Seney Wildlife Refuge is that all the pools that you see are man made! In 1935, it was decided to turn this once heavily logged, burned, ditched, drained and cultivated land into something special for nature.

When you enter into the Seney Wildlife Refuge, you will arrive at a crossroads of sorts. You can take the Marshland Wildlife Drive which is a 7 mile drive thought Seney that is absolutely gorgeous, even in the rain! There is a fishing loop that you can also take instead of the wildlife drive. Plus there are many other biking and hiking trails in Seney.  Below are the hours of operation and a map of all the different trails available.:

Tahquamenon Falls

Tahquamenon Falls is an amazing site to see and is only about an hour away from Blaney Park.  The Upper Falls is what you seen throughout the UP on all the billboards.  The amazing amber color of the water is caused by the tannins that are leached from the cedar, spruce and hemlock in the swamps drained by Tahquamenon river.

When you come into the parking area for the Upper Falls there is a small brewery & restaurant, which was a nice surprise on the day we went.

The Lower falls is where the Upper Falls drain into and foam is  created from to the incredibly soft water.   A good thing to know when you visit the Lower Falls, you can rent a small boat for $20 per family or $7 per person., but make sure you have CASH on hand.  They do not accept credits/debt cards.
